Tip of The Week

This
week’s tip comes from our “Chase it only once” file.

If
you have ever had to navigate your way through a crawl space or tip toe across
floor joists in the attic to pull a wire where you want it listen up. We have a tip for you. |
| |
|
There are times when you
will need to pull a wire or cable to a remote place in the house and the best
way to do it is to run it through the crawl space or through the attic. You can usually find a spot where you can
feed a fish tape up or down and pull the wire to where you want it to be. Once you find a place to pull the wire make
your next project easier by leaving some strong nylon mason’s line or twine in
the wall. By that I mean pull a line
from an access spot in the crawlspace all the way up to the attic and leave the
twin in the space (chase). You’re home
may or may not have this possibility depending on design but many due simply
because of the need to have a common wall for plumbing that accommodates pipes
from all the floors in the house.
Basically you are finding or creating a “chase”. |
| |
| I
have one spot in my basement where a plumbing pipe runs from the ceiling of the
basement all the way out the roof. I
have a piece of twin tied off in the attic and it runs through the walls all
the way down to the basement where it is also tied off. When I had to run a cable for my computer
from the office in the basement to the second floor I used the twine as my
lead. I pulled it back when I was done
and now I can use it again the next time I have to get from the basement to the
second floor. Hope you find this helpful. |
