This week’s tip comes from our “Wooden Be the
Same” file. |
| |
|
A little bit of wood trim can really spruce up
the look of a room. For a small
investment you can make a big difference in the appearance of a room. Unfortunately lots of people shy away from
the project because they have tried the “trim thing” before and have been
frustrated by the priming and the painting and the splitting of the wood. |
|
|
|
We say, leave the wood alone and try the new
poly (polyethylene) products that are on the market. These products come in manageable lengths,
they are pre-primed and they are super easy to work with. Because the poly products are made in a form
with a resin there is no grain therefore they are strong and when you drive a
nail through them they do not split. The
lack of a grain also makes them impervious to warping and twisting due to
moisture gain and loss. They stay
straight and they help to reduce the problem we see during the winter when the
air gets dry and the crown mould develops gaps around the ceiling and wall. |
| |
|
The manufacturing process also makes very large
and ornate trim profiles less expensive to manufacture and easier to install
because they are so light. |
| |
| The next time your thinking a little trim could
help the look of a room don’t be afraid to give the poly trims a try. They “wood” look really good. |
