This week’s tip comes from our “Stick to it”
file. |

Painting concrete or other masonry products is
sometimes a great idea. However, we get
a lot of questions about painting garage floors or other areas that will get
very heavy traffic and wear because the paint that was used failed to stick. |
|
|
|
To put paint on these surfaces is usually the
beginning of a long and expensive battle to maintain the surface. Our suggestion for these types of surfaces is
fundamentally simple but requires some work.
We recommend an epoxy product to paint surfaces like a garage
floor. These products work well because
they provide an exceptionally strong bond to the floor. There are many products
out there. Some are “two part” a resin
and a hardener and others are “one part” where the oxygen in the air acts as
the hardener or catalyst. The two part
products, while more difficult to work with, are typically the sturdier
product. |

|
There is a catch. Surface preparation is critical. Do not skip any steps outlined by the
manufacturer. These steps will include
cleaning and etching the concrete that is to be treated. |
| |
| David has discovered another great product,
Sani-Tred. It is designed for multiple
surfaces and if you check out their web site you can see all of the appropriate
applications. |
