This week’s tip comes from our “The hose shows” file.

Designing a
natural area or landscaping on a piece of paper is easy. You can give a natural
area or a garden curves and free form shapes that are very attractive. The problem comes when you go to lay out the
design on the ground. A little trick
will help with the design and it will allow you some flexibility.

Get your garden hose out. Shut the nozzle off and turn the water on so
the hose fills up with water. Once the
hose is full you can turn off the water so the pressure doesn’t build up. Now that the hose is full of water you can
lay it out on the ground to create the shapes you want. The beauty of the hose is that if you don’t
like the shape you just move it.
Naturally this is much better than digging out the design only to
discover you don’t like it. Once you
have the hose in the shape you like, get a can of upside down spray paint and
spray the design on the ground. You can
move the hose and get to work.
